ADHD scripts just got a whole lot easier
If you’ve got a kid (or a partner, or you yourself) on ADHD medication, you’ll know the drill. Every few months it’s another specialist visit, another wait, another bill. For a lot of families in the west, that’s meant putting off appointments or scrambling to find the money.
That’s changing. More than 170 GPs across Western and South Western Sydney can now prescribe repeat ADHD scripts, which means you no longer need to go back to a paediatrician or psychiatrist every single time your script runs out.

What this actually means for your family
Here’s the part that matters most for the household budget: this saves families anywhere between $250 and $670 per visit. When you’re managing an ongoing condition, those specialist fees add up fast, so having a local GP who can continue your prescription is a genuine game changer for accessibility and cost.
And it doesn’t stop there. Later this year, GPs will also be able to diagnose ADHD and start medication themselves, cutting out another layer of referrals and waitlists. Then in 2027, this service becomes free for 2,500 patients, which is a huge step toward making ADHD care accessible for families who need it most.

How to find a participating GP near you
Healthdirect has a search tool that lets you filter specifically for GPs offering the ADHD medication continuation prescriber service in your suburb. It’s a simple way to check who’s local, what their fees are (some are bulk billing, some mixed billing), and when their next available appointment is.
Why this matters for Western Sydney
Access to specialist care has always been trickier the further west you go, so having 170+ local GPs able to manage repeat scripts is a real win for families here. Less travel, less waiting, less cost, more time actually living your life.
