Koshigaya Park Campbelltown

If you’re after things to do with kids in Sydney, the new Koshigaya Park playground in Campbelltown is worth the trip. Named after Campbelltown’s sister city in Japan, this South West Sydney park has always been a local favourite for its space, shade and picnic facilities. A $2.5 million rebuild has now given it a standout playground, and it’s fast becoming a go-to for things to do with kids in Campbelltown.

The centrepiece is an origami crane-themed climbing structure, a nod to Campbelltown’s 40-plus-year sister city relationship with Koshigaya. It includes a slide, climbing nets, a basket swing, jungle ropes, a talking tube, a xylophone and a pommel crossing.

Around it, this Campbelltown playground has plenty more for kids to explore:

  • Flying fox
  • Water play zone with textured stepping stones and crushed sandstone
  • Inclusive equipment, including a carousel, accessible in-ground trampoline and specially designed seesaw
  • Cherry blossom trees for shade now and a seasonal show later

  • Fully shaded play areas

The whole space was shaped by community input, with council reporting hundreds of local families contributed ideas during consultation. It’s a strong example of what a modern, inclusive South West Sydney playground can look like.

There’s a cycleway for scooters and bikes, plus wide grassed areas for a run-around. The park is also home to Campbelltown’s first Yarning Circle, with Lyrebird artwork sharing Dharawal culture and Aboriginal Dreaming stories. Koshigaya Park sits right on the edge of Campbelltown CBD, so it’s easy to pair with a bigger day out.

Sheltered picnic tables and communal barbecues are dotted through the park, plus new shelters added with the rebuild making it handy for a birthday party or family gathering. The shaded play areas back straight onto the picnic spots, so it’s easy to keep an eye on kids while you set up lunch.

Walks

A paved cycleway and walking path loops through the gardens. It’s flat, pram-friendly and shaded in parts. It’s good for a lap with kids on scooters or a slower stroll with a baby in the carrier, and a nice way to see the cherry blossoms and the Yarning Circle.

Food and coffee

Koshigaya Park sits right next to Campbelltown CBD, with Campbelltown Mall and the surrounding shops and restaurants a short walk or drive away — an easy option if you’d rather skip the picnic set-up. Public toilets are on-site, including an accessible unisex toilet.

For parents building out a list of kids activities in Sydney, the Koshigaya Park playground is well worth the drive. Between the origami crane structure, water play, inclusive equipment and picnic-friendly grounds, it covers a lot for one park, and its central Campbelltown location makes it easy to fold into a bigger day out.
