The Museum of Fire – Penrith
Ride a fire engine, learn about firefighting and step back in time at the Museum of Fire at Penrith Power Station
A Tribute to Firefighters
The museum is a tribute to firefighters and the role they’ve played in keeping communities safe. Inside, you’ll find one of the largest collections of fire-fighting vehicles, equipment and memorabilia in Australia — including historic fire engines, uniforms and specialised gear. It’s a chance to learn about Australia’s fire services and the people behind them.
The Museum of Fire is a not-for-profit registered charity and the official heritage partner of Fire and Rescue NSW.
Preserving Australia’s Fire Heritage
Opened to the public on 16 November 1986, the museum is run by passionate volunteers who are dedicated to preserving Australia’s firefighting history.
Alongside the impressive collection, there are exhibitions and programs focused on fire safety education and the evolution of fire services across the country. It’s educational without feeling heavy — easy to take in at your own pace.
Fun for the Whole Family
This isn’t just a look-and-don’t-touch museum.
The Junior Firefighter Zone is a dedicated kids’ space with interactive fire engines to climb into, fire safety activities, puzzles and books. While the heritage vehicles can’t be climbed on, this safe area gives kids the chance to explore through play.
One of the biggest highlights is the fire engine rides — just $3.50 each. It’s a simple add-on that makes the visit extra memorable. (Please note rides are subject to driver availability.)
