What We Know About Sydney’s New Footy Theme Park
Rugby league families, this one’s for you. NRL chairman Peter V’landys has confirmed the ARL Commission is deep into planning an interactive theme park built entirely around the game. Think Disneyland but make it footy.
According to a report from All Out Rugby League, the attraction is expected to be called NRL Land, and it’s reportedly in the final stages of development. The timing makes sense — the NRL’s popularity has been climbing fast, boosted by the success of the Las Vegas games and talk of a Global Round taking in England, Hong Kong and Japan.
Where would it go?
Early reports point to Sydney’s inner suburbs as the likely location, though nothing’s been locked in publicly. According to a report from the Daily Telegraph, the ARL Commission is close to finalising a deal for a site in Alexandria, in Sydney’s inner suburbs, to house the new venture.
What might be inside?
Forget rollercoasters. The concept is being pitched as a “hub house”. A one stop destination built around rugby league gaming, merchandise, coaching clinics and watch parties, aimed squarely at engaging younger fans. There’s also said to be scope for birthday parties and functions at the venue. Full details haven’t been released, but going off the “Disneyland for rugby league” pitch, expect the theme park playbook, interactive fan experiences, club and player tie ins, and family friendly activities built around the game.
Should Western Sydney families get excited?
We’d love nothing more than to see something like this land closer to home — Western Sydney is footy heartland, after all. But for now, this is still very much a “watch this space” story rather than a done deal.
