Holland House Closing Soon

Holland House in Smithfield has long been one of Western Sydney’s most unique hidden gems — a Dutch café and supermarket filled with traditional sweets, biscuits and pantry items imported from the Netherlands. Sadly, following the passing of owner Jan in early February, the store will be closing within the next 12 months. There is currently an everything must go sale, so if you’ve ever wanted to visit, now is the time.

Holland House Cafe in Smithfield

Step inside Holland House and it doesn’t feel like a typical Western Sydney café. The space is filled with shelves of imported Dutch products, traditional packaging, souvenirs and pantry staples you won’t find in major supermarkets.

At the front, you can sit down for coffee and cake. It’s simple and old-school — in a good way. Think Dutch biscuits, slices and sweet treats that pair perfectly with a hot drink.

Inside Holland House Cafe

Holland House has always been known for its range of imported European groceries. Highlights include:

  • Traditional Dutch biscuits and sweets
  • Liquorice varieties you won’t see elsewhere
  • Imported pantry staples from the Netherlands
  • Souvenirs and gift items
  • Specialty ingredients for baking and cooking

For Dutch families living in Western Sydney, it’s been a little slice of home. For others, it’s a chance to try something different and expand the pantry beyond the usual brands.

Traditional Dutch Pancakes

Following the passing of Jan, the store is preparing to close within the next 12 months. An everything must go sale is now underway, with stock gradually clearing.

If there’s something you’ve been meaning to try — or if you have favourites you don’t want to miss out on — it’s worth visiting sooner rather than later.
