Western Sydney just got a lot greener. Gulguer National Park has been officially announced, and it’s set to become one of the biggest outdoor spaces in the region, bigger than three Centennial Parklands combined. Here’s what local families need to know.
about Gulguer National Park?
It’s the second national park delivered for our region under the Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan, following Warranmadhaa National Park along the Georges River. The name Gulguer comes from the swirling waters of the Nepean River, which runs through the area.

Why It Matters for Western Sydney Families
For years, families west of the M7 have watched other parts of Sydney get first pick of new green space. This is a direct response to that gap, and it’s designed with growth in mind — the Cumberland Plain is expected to house around 73,000 new homes over the coming decades, and this park protects habitat while that development happens around it.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car said the park would give local families “a world-class destination right in their own backyard” and for a region that’s growing faster than almost anywhere else in NSW, that’s a big deal.
When Can We Visit?
The park isn’t fully open yet. Public access is currently only available through Bents Basin State Conservation Area, and the government has flagged plans for future infrastructure including walking tracks, cycling trails and campgrounds as the park expands.
