Gunyama Park Zetland: New Playground, Water Play and Skate Park Now Open
Gunyama Park in Zetland just got a serious upgrade. Stage 2 of the park is now complete, adding 6,300 square metres of new green space right next to the existing Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre. It’s a big win for inner-city families who know how hard it can be to find quality outdoor space that actually caters to kids of all ages.
Here’s everything you need to know before you visit.
A Proper Playground — Finally
The new playground is the headline act and it’s designed with a good age range in mind. Younger kids have their own play areas, while older kids and teens get a skate park tucked into the north-west corner. This is the kind of thing that makes a park worth the trip when you’ve got kids at different stages.

Water Play
Water play is included in the new playground setup — always a crowd pleaser and a lifesaver on a hot day. Pack a change of clothes and a towel. You’ll need them.

First Nations Learning Circle
One of the standout inclusions is a First Nations learning circle with cultural season design elements woven into the landscape. It’s a thoughtful addition that gives the space real depth — and a great conversation starter with kids about connection to Country and Aboriginal culture.

More Green Space, More Trees
The expanded lawn is edged with native planting and layered landscaping — not just open grass, but a considered space that’s easy to spread out in. More trees mean more shade, which matters more than people realise when you’re planning a full afternoon out.
Practical Facilities
This is where a lot of parks fall short. Gunyama Park Stage 2 has:
- Accessible public toilets and change rooms in a new amenities building
- BBQ facilities
- Picnic tables and seating
- Shade canopies
The accessible toilets and change rooms are a genuine plus for families with young children or anyone with accessibility needs.

George Julius Avenue North
A new tree-lined path connecting Epsom Road to the future Zetland Avenue extension makes it easier to walk to and around the park. Better access, more shade, and a nicer arrival experience all round.
